The Auto Teletech Origin Story

My name is Eche, an auto technician like you. I spent 7 years as an auto technician at a Chrysler dealership in Katy, Texas, specializing in electrical systems, trim, leather seats, and lift kits.

A Common Problem

Working on cars was fun, but the flat-rate pay ruined it for me as a career. Between neck pain and flagging fewer hours than I worked 😅, I knew something had to change. So, I started my career transition into software development.

Right before COVID, I left the dealership and started a mobile mechanic business, which turned into my first startup, Eonn Auto. As things shifted online, I kept wondering: How can I earn money remotely as a technician without touching a car or wrench? At the time, I couldn't figure it out.

A few years later, I got my first non-automotive job in software as a Product Owner / UX Designer. Still, friends, family, and old customers kept calling me with car questions. That's when it clicked: instead of giving free advice all the time, why not also charge?

The Solution: Auto Teletech

I shared the idea with my close friends, Jeremy and Risa. Together, we brainstormed, designed, self-funded, and built Auto Teletech, a platform that helps auto technicians (current and former) and shops offer professional paid video consultations.

With cars evolving into computers on wheels that undergo constant technological change, requiring techs to keep up, I strongly believe that our diagnostic knowledge is just as valuable as our hands-on skills.

A Side Hustle for Auto Mechanics

Today, I use Auto Teletech myself as a side hustle to help people in the US, Canada, and beyond with car issues, all while currently living in Australia. I hope others see it as a side hustle for auto mechanics.

You might be wondering, how the hell did I end up in Australia? Well, COVID!

I decided to complete my career change by pursuing another degree in IT here in Australia, b/c one thing COVID taught me is that life's too short not to take risks. Better to try and fail while you're alive than look back later full of regrets. So, I thought, what the hell 😅… might as well go all the way down under.
